Bugtel/ Biodiversity area.
Our fifth class decided that we were going to create a biodiversity area. We decided that we were going to use an unused area beside the school pitch. This area wasn’t being used for anything so we decided to would be nice to give it back to nature. Our aim was to create an area which was safe for animals, insects and birds. We got used pallets from a local farmer to use for the structure of the hotel. We decided where we wanted to construct our hotel, then carried the pallets and placed them on top of each other. Once we had it constructed we gathered and collected materials to fill our hotel. Each material is a material which bugs like to live in or on. These included leaves, bricks, branches, logs roofing felt and much more. When we completed the bug hotel we picked an area where we wanted to let go wild. We put up a string to mark the area and got Jim to mow a path around it. The reason we did this was so that we can give back an area to nature. By doing this we have created a biodiversity area. Eventually it will become wild which will encourage bugs, wild animals and birds to come and feel safe. This in turn will help wild flowers grow and give animals a place to live. All these changes should help the wilderness in our school and help improve the environment. By Laura McDonald and Leah Delaney. ere to edit.
